What should I wear to Cliffs of Moher?

Pack warm clothing and a rain jacket The best thing you can do is be prepared. Pack a scarf, a rain jacket, and waterproof shoes. We hope it stays sunny for you, but in the case that it doesn't, we don't want your feet to be all cold and soggy as you explore!

Dressing for the Cliffs of Moher requires a "layered" strategy because the weather on Ireland's Atlantic coast is famously unpredictable and extremely windy. Even on a sunny day, the wind at the cliff edge can be fierce, making the temperature feel much colder than it actually is. Your base layer should be a comfortable t-shirt, followed by a warm mid-layer like a fleece or wool sweater. The most critical piece is a high-quality, windproof and waterproof jacket with a hood; umbrellas are useless here as they will likely be destroyed or blown away by the gusts. For your lower half, avoid jeans if rain is in the forecast, as they stay heavy and cold when wet; instead, opt for quick-dry hiking trousers. Perhaps most importantly, wear sturdy, waterproof walking shoes or boots with good grip. The paths can become incredibly muddy and slippery, and the uneven terrain requires solid ankle support. Don't forget a "buff" or a snug-fitting beanie to keep your ears warm and your hair out of your face so you can actually see the view.
