While there is no universal law, several surveys and sleep studies suggest that a majority of women (approximately 54% to 60% in various UK and US polls) prefer the left side of the bed (as you are lying in it). In many cultures and practices like Feng Shui, the left side is considered the "yin" or feminine side, associated with calmness and intuition. Psychologically, some studies have linked left-side sleepers to being more creative and having a more positive outlook on life compared to right-side sleepers. However, the choice is often driven by practicality rather than gender: people tend to choose the side that is further from the door (for a sense of security), closer to the bathroom, or closer to the nightstand with their phone charger. In many heterosexual couples, the side of the bed is often established early in the relationship and rarely changes; interestingly, one study found that once "sides" are picked, 75% of couples feel physically uncomfortable if they try to swap.
