What time do seaplanes fly in the Maldives?

Seaplanes operate from 6:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., 7 days per week. The uniqueness of flying in these conditions, landing on & taking-off from water, permits the seaplane to fly only from sunrise to sunset. i.e. between approximately 06h00 and 18h00 (local Maldivian time).

Other than being a bit slower and not as responsive on the controls as a conventional aircraft of the same type that doesn't have floats, floatplanes and seaplanes fly pretty much the same as regular aircraft.

Rain does not affect our ability to fly. Seaplanes and tours flights fly relatively low at 1000 feet to 1500 feet. As long as the clouds are higher than that, they are not a factor.

The report, titled “Seaplane Accident Analysis Report 2008-2022,” was based on a study of 406 accidents involving seaplanes that were reported over the 14-year period. The majority—329— were non-fatal. The leading accident cause was gear-down water landings in amphibious seaplanes.

Less traffic and a cool breeze also make for a smoother flight, if you don't take into account unexpectedly bumping into clouds. On clear nights, there is less friction against the wings which makes for obstruction-free sailing across the sky.

The use of seaplanes gradually tapered off after World War II, partially because of the investments in airports during the war but mainly because landplanes were less constrained by weather conditions that could result in sea states being too high to operate seaplanes while landplanes could continue to operate.

Dress exactly as you would to be outside the day that you fly. The air is always a bit cooler up at flying altitude so if it's a warm day then it will be more comfortable up high. If you're flying on a cooler day then bring a jacket just in case.

Try not to sleep during takeoff and descent as you will not be swallowing as frequently and this can lead to blocked ears. If you're not awake to allow your ears to pop, then this can result in dizziness, ear infections and in some cases, nosebleeds and even loss of hearing.
