While the grounds of Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo, are open 24 hours a day, the specific buildings and services have set hours. The Main Hall (Hondo) typically opens at 6:00 AM (or 6:30 AM from October to March) and officially closes at 5:00 PM. The various amulet stalls and fortune-telling (omikuji) stands also generally shut down by 5:00 PM. However, visiting at night is highly recommended; the temple buildings and the iconic Kaminarimon Gate are beautifully illuminated until 11:00 PM each night. This "after-hours" visit offers a much quieter and more mystical experience compared to the dense daytime crowds. The Nakamise-dori shopping street leading up to the temple usually sees most of its vendors closing between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, though some eateries in the surrounding alleys stay open much later into the night.
