What to wear to Disney when its hot?

In addition to wearing shorts, wear fabric that is lightweight, brightly colored and breathable. When you take these factors into account while packing, you improve your Disney experience significantly. Be careful not to wear too little. It is a family-friendly place, but dress down to a level that is appropriate.

When visiting Disney World or Disneyland during the intense 2026 summer heat, the gold standard is moisture-wicking athleisure. Traditional cotton should be avoided as it absorbs sweat and stays damp, leading to discomfort and chafing. Instead, opt for lightweight, light-colored synthetic fabrics that reflect sunlight and dry quickly. Many guests now wear UPF-rated "sun shirts" to provide a physical barrier against UV rays without needing constant sunscreen reapplication. For footwear, "broken-in" sneakers with moisture-wicking socks are essential for the 10+ miles of walking common in a Disney day; many also carry high-quality walking sandals to swap into if feet get too hot. A "hands-free" neck fan or a cooling towel that stays cold when wet can be a lifesaver during long queues. Don't forget a wide-brimmed hat and polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes from the Florida or California glare. Packing a spare shirt in a locker can also provide a much-needed "reset" halfway through a sweltering day.
