Disney's Encanto is primarily inspired by the stunning Cocora Valley (Valle de Cocora) in the Quindío department of Colombia. This high-altitude valley is famous for being the home of the world's tallest palm trees, the Quindío wax palms, which can reach heights of up to 60 meters (nearly 200 feet). These slender, towering trees are a signature visual element in the film's landscape surrounding the Madrigal family's "Casita." The filmmakers traveled extensively through Colombia's coffee-growing region (the Eje Cafetero) to capture the "magical realism" of the area. Beyond the Cocora Valley, the movie also draws inspiration from the colorful colonial architecture of towns like Barichara and Salento, blending these real-world locations into the fictional, enchanted "Encanto" that serves as the backdrop for Mirabel’s journey.
