Spirit Airlines was originally founded in 1983 as Charter One Airlines, a Detroit-based charter tour operator. Under its original name, the company primarily provided travel packages to entertainment-heavy destinations like Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas. It wasn't until May 1992 that the airline brought jet aircraft into its fleet and officially rebranded as Spirit Airlines, subsequently launching scheduled service between Detroit and Atlantic City. This rebranding marked the start of its transition into the "Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier" (ULCC) model it is known for today. Interestingly, the company's roots go back even further to 1964, when it started as the "Clippert Trucking Company," highlighting a long history of logistics and transport before it ever took to the skies with its now-iconic yellow livery.
