What will happen to the Disney Star Wars hotel?

– Disney announced earlier this year that the company would be closing its Star Wars-themed “Galactic Starcruiser” hotel, with its final voyage scheduled from Sept. 28-30.

Following the closure of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser in late 2023, the building in Orlando has remained a "dormant" asset as Disney evaluates its next move for 2026. While fans have speculated it might return as a "standard" hotel, the building’s windowless, "bunker-like" design makes it difficult to convert into a traditional resort. In 2026, the most likely outcome being discussed by Imagineers is a reimagining into a "Day Experience" or a "Premium Event Space." This would allow Disney to utilize the high-tech "Halcyon" interior for immersive dinner theater, high-end private corporate retreats, or "Star Wars" themed escape rooms without the massive operational cost of a 24/7 role-playing cruise. Another possibility involves using the facility as a "luxury lounge" and specialized entry point for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. While the original "2-night cruise" model was a financial failure, the infrastructure remains world-class, and Disney is expected to announce a new, more accessible use for the site by the end of 2026 to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the Star Wars franchise.
