Since January 1, 2023, the official and only currency accepted in Croatia is the Euro (€). The previous currency, the Croatian Kuna (HRK), is no longer in circulation and cannot be used for transactions. For travelers in 2026, the Euro is the "best" and necessary currency for everything from small seaside cafes to luxury hotels in Dubrovnik. While credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are widely accepted in major cities and tourist hubs, it is still highly recommended to carry some physical Euro cash, especially for small purchases, local markets, or tips in rural areas. When using ATMs, always choose to be "charged in the local currency" (Euros) to avoid the poor exchange rates associated with "Dynamic Currency Conversion." If you still have old Kunas from a previous trip, you may be able to exchange them at the Croatian National Bank, but for daily travel in 2026, the Euro is your universal key to the country's economy.
As of early 2026, Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure officially holds the world record for the tallest roller coaster, standing at a staggering 456 feet (139 meters). It also held the record for the world's fastest coaster (128 mph) until being surpassed by Formula Rossa in Abu Dhabi. However, 2026 is a bittersweet year for fans, as Six Flags recently announced that Kingda Ka has been permanently closed and will be dismantled to make way for a new, "multi-world-record-breaking" launch coaster scheduled for the park's next phase. While it technically still stands as the tallest completed coaster until the new record-breakers are finished elsewhere, its time as an operating "King" has ended. For two decades, it was the only coaster to feature a 90-degree vertical ascent and descent from over 45 stories in the air, leaving a permanent mark on the "Strata-Coaster" (coasters over 400 feet) category.
