EasyJet officially overhauled its cabin bag policy on February 10, 2021, marking a significant shift in its low-cost business model. Prior to this date, all passengers were permitted to bring one standard-sized overhead cabin bag for free. Under the new rules, only a small under-seat bag (max 45 x 36 x 20 cm) is included in the basic fare. To bring a "large" cabin bag (max 56 x 45 x 25 cm) for the overhead locker, passengers must now book an "Up Front" or "Extra Legroom" seat, or pay a separate fee. This change was designed to reduce boarding delays caused by limited overhead space and to generate additional ancillary revenue. In 2026, this policy remains a core part of their pricing structure, and travelers are strictly monitored at the gate with sizer boxes; if a bag exceeds the "small" dimensions without a prior booking, it is checked into the hold for a high gate-collection fee, often exceeding £40.
