When did metro start in Bangalore?

On October 20, 2011, the Purple Line's first 6.7-kilometer (4.2-mile), 6-station stretch (Reach 1) between Byappanahalli in the east and Mahatma Gandhi Road opened. Namma Metro's first segment was built here.
