When should I go to Interlaken?

June to August: The best time to visit Interlaken is during the summer, from June to September. The temperature lingers around a pleasant 18°C to 20°C. It is the perfect time for aimless walks, trekking, mountaineering and adventure activities.

The best time to visit Interlaken depends entirely on whether you prefer "peak summer" alpine meadows or a "winter wonderland" experience. In 2026, the peak summer months of July and August offer the most reliable weather for hiking and paragliding, with temperatures averaging a pleasant 18°C to 24°C. This is the prime time for lake cruises on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. However, if you are looking to avoid the massive crowds and high prices, the "shoulder seasons" of late May to June and September to early October are considered the "goldilocks" periods; the air is crisp, the wildflowers are in bloom (or the larch trees are turning gold), and most mountain lifts are still operational. For winter sports enthusiasts, January and February are the best months, as Interlaken serves as a perfect "base camp" for the Jungfrau Region’s ski resorts like Grindelwald and Wengen. While Interlaken itself rarely gets heavy snow on the valley floor, the surrounding peaks are guaranteed to be white, and the town hosts festive Christmas markets in December.

The choice is yours! Interlaken is more like a transport hub and it's also a larger town so it has more choices of shops and restaurants just to browse. Grindelwald is a scenic village (still with enough restaurants and some shopping) that is much more scenic than Interlaken.

Luzern is more comfortable, old money and beautiful setting on the lake.
