When should you activate your MagicBand?

You can link our MagicBands to your My Disney Experience account as soon as you have them in hand! I link them as soon as I can just to make sure that everything is working properly. Linking can be done very easily on your My Disney Experience mobile app!

They run off of a small battery inside the band. Disney says the batteries are designed to last for 2 years. I have read of batteries lasting for up to five years. Since a Disney Magic Band is just a link to your My Disney Experience account, it can be used for many trips until the battery no longer works.

However, even if the long-range battery is no longer working, your MagicBand should still work for any Mickey to Mickey touchpoints, such as entrance tapstyles, Lightning Lane entrances, unlocking the door to your Disney Resort Hotel room, or point of sale terminals when charging purchases to your hotel room folio.
