When should you check-in online on Ryanair?

Does Ryanair have online check-in? If you have reserved a seat, you can check-in online for your flight between 30 days and 4 hours before your scheduled flight. If you have not reserved a seat you cannot check in until 48 hours before travel.

For Ryanair flights, online check-in opens 24 hours before the scheduled departure time and closes 2 hours before departure.

Here are the key details and why timing matters:

Standard Policy (Most Passengers):

  • Opens: 24 hours before departure.
  • Closes: 2 hours before departure (strict).
  • Why it’s important: If you miss online check-in, you will be charged a hefty fee (often €/£55-€/£65 per person) to check-in at the airport.

Critical Exceptions & Important Notes:

  1. Non-EU/EEA Passengers: If you are traveling to or from a non-EU/EEA country (e.g., UK to Morocco, EU to Turkey), online check-in closes 4 hours before departure. This allows time for mandatory document checks at the airport.

  2. Infants (under 2 years): You cannot check in online for an infant. You must check in at the airport desk to receive the infant’s boarding pass.

  3. Special Assistance Passengers: If you have booked airport assistance, you can usually check in online but must still visit the Special Assistance desk at the airport.

  4. Group Bookings: For some large group bookings, online check-in may not be available, requiring airport check-in.

What to Do After Online Check-in:

  • Download or print your boarding pass. Ryanair is very strict about this.
  • Mobile Boarding Pass: Ensure it’s downloaded to your phone’s wallet/app. Do not rely on having an internet connection at the airport to

For a short-haul flight where you are only taking hand luggage, checking in online saves a lot of time and is therefore much better than checking in at the airport. If, on the other hand, you have to check in bulky luggage, it is better to use the classic check-in at the airport for security reasons.
