In 2009, as part of the What Will You Celebrate promotion, Walt Disney World offered free admission for guests on their birthdays. That offer ended on December 31, 2009, but it may have been one of the most popular promotions ever at Disney because so many people remember it and hope it is still in effect.
The parks had been scheduled to reopen on Disneyland's 65th anniversary on July 17, 2020, but due to rising cases in California, the parks' reopening was once again postponed. It was expected to stay closed until at least December 31, 2020.

On July 17, 1955, Disneyland's opening day, the theme park only cost guests $1, according to Walt's Apartment. In May 1964, a 15-year-old boy from Long Beach, California, named Mark Maples was injured after he stood up in the Matterhorn Bobsleds and fell out. It was reported that his restraint was undone by his ride companion. He died three days later as a result of his injuries. This was Disneyland's first fatal incident.
