The final official "Grad Nite" event at Walt Disney World took place in 2011. For nearly 40 years, this tradition saw high school seniors from across the country take over the Magic Kingdom (and briefly Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2009) for an all-night, private party featuring live music and unlimited rides. Disney decided to end the event in Orlando to focus on a more flexible model that encouraged schools to visit throughout the year using discounted "student group" tickets rather than a single, high-intensity weekend that often caused logistical headaches and required the park to close early to the general public. While the Orlando event is a thing of the past, Grad Nite continues at the Disneyland Resort in California, where it remains a massive cultural milestone for West Coast seniors, typically held across multiple nights in May and June at Disney California Adventure.
