The most picturesque streets in Mykonos are found in Mykonos Town (Chora), which is a labyrinth of whitewashed alleys designed centuries ago to confuse pirates. The most iconic area is Little Venice, where 18th-century fishing houses with colorful balconies hang directly over the sea; the narrow paths leading into this area are stunning at sunset. Another must-visit is Matoyianni Street, the main artery of the town, which is lined with high-end boutiques, blooming bougainvillea, and traditional blue-shuttered windows. For the classic "postcard" shot, wander toward the Agios Nikolaos church area or the streets surrounding the Panagia Paraportiani, which is one of the most photographed churches in the world due to its unique asymmetrical architecture. To find the quietest and "prettiest" spots, it is best to get lost in the residential backstreets early in the morning before the cruise ship crowds arrive. Here, you will find perfectly white stairs, hidden chapels with red domes, and the famous local pelican roaming the cobblestones. The area around the Kato Mili windmills also offers beautiful paths that provide a panoramic view of the town’s white cubic houses against the deep blue Aegean Sea, creating a striking contrast that defines the Cycladic aesthetic.
