Where can I fill my Suica?

The Suica can be loaded up to a maximum of 20,000 yen at Automatic Ticket Vending Machines and Fare Adjustment Machines displaying the Suica mark. Only yen may be used to load a card. A credit card cannot be used to load a Suica.

In 2026, you can fill (top up) your Suica card at multifunction ticket machines in any JR East station, as well as at most subway and private railway stations across Japan. These machines accept Japanese Yen (cash) and are easily found near the ticket gates. Additionally, you can top up your physical card at convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) by telling the clerk "Suica charge" and placing your card on the reader. However, the most popular way to fill a Suica in 2026 is via the Mobile Suica app on iPhone or Android. With a mobile Suica, you can top up instantly using Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a linked credit card without needing to find a machine or use cash. For tourists using the "Welcome Suica" (the red card), note that these cannot be refunded, so it is best to fill them in small increments at station "Fare Adjustment" machines if you are near the end of your trip.
