You don't always know how much time you need, you don't always have enough change, and sometimes you can't get out and feed the meter again in time. Park downtown often enough and odds are good that you will get a parking ticket eventually. Des Moines has it easy — our tickets are $15.
Meters are located in the central business district, the medical district and along University Street near TCU. Meters in these areas are operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and are free after 6 p.m. and all day Saturdays and Sundays.
(a) No person shall park any vehicle and permit it to remain standing upon any public street or public metered lot in the city continuously and in one place for a period of more than 24 hours. (b) A person who violates any provision of this section shall pay a fine of $15.00.
If a fine or fee is not paid within 30 days after the date it is assessed, the court debt is statutorily deemed delinquent. Iowa law does not allow the court to grant orders for extension.
