On the massive Airbus A380, pilots have a dedicated Pilot Rest Compartment (PRC) that is entirely separate from the cabin crew's rest area. This "secret" room is typically located on the upper deck, tucked directly behind or adjacent to the cockpit. Because it is located within the secure flight deck area, it is inaccessible to passengers. The A380’s vast size allows these rest areas to be relatively comfortable; they usually contain two lie-flat bunks (beds) and, in many airline configurations, two "Business Class" style seats equipped with the same in-flight entertainment screens found in the passenger cabin. This allows off-duty pilots to choose between sleeping or relaxing while staying close enough to the cockpit to be summoned immediately if needed. The area is climate-controlled and features thick soundproofing to ensure that resting pilots are not disturbed by the noise of the four massive engines or the 500+ passengers below.
