Since May 1, 2019, Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and the Downtown Disney District have been entirely smoke-free. This means there are no designated smoking areas inside the theme parks themselves, nor in the Esplanade area between the two parks. Guests who wish to smoke tobacco or use e-cigarettes/vapes must exit the security perimeter and go to designated areas located outside the main entrance gates. These areas are typically situated near the parking lot shuttles or in specific sections of the Toy Story Parking Lot. It is important to note that smoking is also prohibited in Disney Resort hotel rooms, on balconies, and in most public areas of the hotels, with only a few specific outdoor smoking zones available at each resort. If a guest is caught smoking or vaping inside the parks, they will be asked to stop and directed to the exit; repeated violations or the use of prohibited substances (like marijuana, which is banned on all Disney property regardless of state law) can result in being barred from the resort and a "room recovery fee" of $250 to $500 if done in a hotel room.
