Where is Firehawk at Kings Island?

Kings Island is a 364-acre amusement park located 24 miles northeast of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio, United States. Owned and operated by Cedar Fair, the park was built by Taft Broadcasting and opened in 1972.

As of 2026, Firehawk is no longer at Kings Island, as the ride was permanently closed and dismantled several years ago. Firehawk was a steel "flying" roller coaster located in the X-Base section of the park (now part of the Area 72 themed land). It originally opened at the park in May 2007 after being relocated from Geauga Lake, where it had operated as X-Flight. The ride allowed guests to experience the sensation of flight by reclining them into a "supine" position before flipping them over to face the ground during the course. However, in September 2018, Kings Island announced that the coaster had reached the end of its service life and that maintenance and replacement parts had become prohibitively expensive. Firehawk gave its final rides on October 28, 2018, and was demolished during the following off-season. In its place, the park constructed Orion, a massive "Giga Coaster" that opened in 2020. While the track and supports are gone, the park honored the legacy of Firehawk by reusing its former photo booth as the entrance for Orion and incorporating "Easter eggs" into the Area 72 theming that reference the defunct flying coaster and its "test pilot" narrative.
