The most effective place for an AirTag is inside the lining or a "hidden" internal pocket rather than attached to the outside. Placing it in a small, zippered interior compartment prevents it from being easily seen by potential thieves and protects the device from being knocked off during transit or baggage handling. Some travelers prefer to tape or sew the AirTag into a discrete spot between the exterior fabric and the interior lining to make it nearly impossible to find quickly. Avoid placing it deep inside a metal-lined laptop sleeve or near heavy electronics, as the metal can interfere with the Bluetooth signal. If your bag has a dedicated "hidden" passport pocket against your back, that is often an ideal spot for both security and signal strength.
