Every year, when Torne River turns to ice, a new Icehotel is created in the small village of Jukkasjärvi in the north of Sweden. The ice of the river transforms to design and architecture - an ephemeral art project and the world's first, and largest hotel built of snow and ice.

Outdoor winter wear such as warm overalls, warm boots, hats and mittens are included when you stay at Icehotel. Your base layer or thermals, including long-johns and a long-sleeved t-shirt, should ideally be made out of wool, but also remember to pack fleece sweaters, a scarf and plenty of warm wool socks.

The temperature inside an ice hotel rarely drops below minus five Centigrade. It sounds horribly cold but when you're wrapped up in suitable night clothing and snug inside a special sleeping bag, which the ice hotels provide for you, you stay warm as long as it's over minus 25 Centigrade outside.

The skeleton of the hotel is made of steel and concrete and is covered with 2,000 square metres of insulation. The roof has 20-centimetre insulation to protect the ice from melting in summers. The suites of Ice Hotel 365 have art-exhibition during day time and they make a hotel at night time.
