The major $2 billion theme park project currently making headlines is American Heartland Theme Park and Resort, which is being built in Vinita, Oklahoma. This massive development is designed to be a "middle America" competitor to Disney and Universal. The 1,000-acre resort will feature a 125-acre theme park with six distinct lands themed around American history and heritage, including "Great Plains," "Bayou Bay," and "Electropolis." The project is led by a creative team that includes several former Disney Imagineers. In addition to the park, the development includes a 300-room hotel and a large RV park. While the RV park (Three Ponies RV Park and Campground) is slated to open first, the main theme park is currently targeting an opening date in late 2025 or 2026. This project is significant because it brings "Disney-scale" entertainment to a landlocked region of the U.S. that has traditionally been underserved by the major theme park giants.
