Where is the road to heaven in Hawaii?

Most people refer to it as “Stairway to Heaven” but the official name, the one you'll find on the trail head sign, is Haiku Stairs (or HaÊ»ikÅ« Stairs). It's a steel staircase made up of 4000 steps that ascends a ridge up from the Valley of Haiku near Kaneohe.

As of 2023, there have never been any falling deaths on the Stairway To Heaven Hawaii hike. The only death I'm aware of was caused by a heart attack in a middle aged hiker (that steep ascent to platform one can be strenuous).

The legal Stairway to Heaven trail starts in the parking lot of Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park (photo below). This route is relatively flat for a few miles before gaining nearly 3,000 feet to the peak, the top of the Haiku Stairs, and the view of the Pacific Ocean.
