The Turks and Caicos Islands are located in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 575 miles southeast of Miami, Florida, and 90 miles north of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Although often associated with the Caribbean, they are technically part of the Lucayan Archipelago (along with the Bahamas). The territory consists of two groups of islands: the larger Caicos Islands to the west and the smaller Turks Islands to the east, separated by the 22-mile-wide Turks Island Passage. The islands are a British Overseas Territory and are situated just outside the "Caribbean Sea" boundary, though they share the region's climate and culture. In 2026, the main tourism hub is Providenciales (known as "Provo"), home to the world-famous Grace Bay Beach. Its location makes it a popular stop for Atlantic cruises and a relatively short flight from most major East Coast hubs in the United States and Canada.
