Although the hit TV show Yellowstone is set in the majestic landscapes of Montana, its filming locations have shifted significantly over its five seasons. For the first three seasons, roughly 75% of the show was actually filmed in Utah, specifically around Park City, Ogden, and Spanish Fork, due to better tax incentives at the time. However, starting with Season 4 and continuing through Season 5, production moved almost entirely to Western Montana to capture more authentic scenery. The iconic "Dutton Ranch" is filmed at the Chief Joseph Ranch in Darby, Montana, a real-life working guest ranch where fans can even book stays in Rip’s or Lee’s cabins. Other frequent locations include the city of Missoula, where scenes at the Missoula County Courthouse and the Montana Livestock Association were shot, and the Crow Indian Reservation near Billings, which serves as the "Broken Rock Reservation." This move to Montana has added a level of grit and visual honesty that has become a hallmark of the series.
