As of early 2026, the traditional three-class system is rapidly evolving, with several major carriers phasing out dedicated First Class in favor of enhanced "Business Plus" or "Suites" products. American Airlines has completed the removal of its Flagship First product from international routes, marking the total disappearance of First Class from the U.S. commercial market. Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways are also significantly reducing their First Class footprints; Qatar is focusing its ultra-premium efforts on a limited A380 fleet while moving toward a high-density "QSuite" model for its A350s. Lufthansa and Emirates are notable "holdouts" that continue to invest in First Class for their flagship A380 and 777-9 aircraft, though even Emirates is not including First Class on its newest A350 deliveries. This shift is primarily driven by the "lie-flat" revolution in Business Class, which has narrowed the comfort gap to the point where the massive price premium for First Class is becoming harder for corporations to justify.
