Avios is the primary loyalty currency used by the International Airlines Group (IAG) and its partners. The core airlines that use Avios as their direct frequent flyer currency are British Airways (Executive Club), Iberia (Iberia Plus), Aer Lingus (AerClub), and Vueling (Vueling Club). In 2022, a major shift occurred when Qatar Airways (Privilege Club) officially adopted Avios, allowing for seamless transfers between British Airways and Qatar accounts. Finnair also adopted Avios as its loyalty currency in early 2024. Beyond these primary users, Avios can be used to book flights on any airline within the one-world® alliance, including American Airlines, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines. This "unified currency" system is highly advantageous for travelers in 2026, as it allows points to be moved between different airline accounts (like moving BA Avios to Qatar Avios) at a 1:1 ratio, providing access to a vast global network. This flexibility makes Avios one of the most powerful and versatile "travel currencies" in the world, especially for those looking to book luxury long-haul "Qsuites" or transatlantic routes.
