American Airlines (AA) is a founding member of the oneworld® alliance, which means your AAdvantage miles can be redeemed for flights on over a dozen world-class airlines. These include British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines (JAL), Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines, and Alaska Airlines. Beyond the oneworld alliance, American Airlines has several "non-alliance" partners where you can also use your miles, such as Etihad Airways, Fiji Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, GOL Airlines, and JetBlue (though the JetBlue partnership has fluctuated due to legal challenges). In 2026, one of the most popular uses for AA miles is booking Qatar Airways' "Qsuite" or JAL's business class, often offering much higher value than domestic AA flights. To book these, you can usually search directly on the AA.com website, though some partners like Etihad may require calling an AAdvantage representative. Using miles on partners is subject to "award availability," so it is always recommended to book these international legs at least 6 to 11 months in advance to secure the best seats.
