The "better" airport in St. Lucia depends entirely on where you are flying from and where you are staying. Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), located in Vieux Fort at the southern tip, is the island's main gateway for international flights from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. It is a larger facility with more amenities but is roughly a 60- to 90-minute drive from the popular resort areas in the north. Conversely, George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) is located in Castries, just minutes away from the major northern resorts and the capital. However, SLU is a much smaller airport that primarily handles regional Caribbean turboprop flights. If you are flying in from a major international hub, you will almost certainly land at UVF. If you are island-hopping from a nearby Caribbean nation or prefer a very short commute to a northern hotel, SLU is the more convenient choice. Many luxury travelers choose to take a helicopter transfer from UVF to SLU to skip the long cross-island drive.
