Which Aran Island has best beaches?

Inis Mór has some fabulous, safe, clean beaches. One of the finest of the Aran Island's beaches is the Blue Flag awarded Kilmurvey beach, just to the north-east of Dún Aonghasa. The unspoilt beach is located in a sheltered bay, and the clean blue water is perfect for a dip.

Among the three Aran Islands off the coast of County Galway, Ireland, Inishmore (Inis Mór) is widely considered to have the best and most accessible beaches. The "crown jewel" is Kilmurvy Beach, a stunning "Blue Flag" beach with white sands and turquoise waters that look more Caribbean than Atlantic on a sunny day. It is located near the base of the famous Dún Aonghasa fort and offers a safe, sheltered spot for swimming with lifeguard service during the summer months. For those seeking seclusion, Inishmore also hides Trá Mór, a vast and often empty stretch of sand in the eastern village of Iaraine that requires a bit of a hike through dunes to reach. Inisheer (Inis Oírr) also boasts a beautiful beach right next to the ferry terminal, which is incredibly convenient for a quick dip before your boat leaves. While Inishmaan (Inis Meáin) has rugged, unspoiled coastlines, its beaches are often plagued by stronger currents and are better suited for "beachcombing" than swimming. For the perfect balance of scenic beauty, facilities, and safe swimming, Kilmurvy on Inishmore remains the definitive choice for beach lovers visiting the islands in 2026.
