Caroline Parot, chief executive of the largest listed car hire company in Europe, said prices had risen because providers could not source enough vehicles to meet demand from holidaymakers.
If you rent a small car for a week in the USA or the UK it will cost around £80/€90. You can hire the same car for a week in Spain for as little as £30/€35. If you rent a car for seven people in France for a week, you could pay £230/€265 for it. The same car for the same week in Spain will cost you around £65/€75.
