When comparing "Disney World" (Florida) and "Disneyland" (California), Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando is exponentially larger. To put it in perspective, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim covers approximately 500 acres, which is about the size of a large city park. In stark contrast, Walt Disney World covers roughly 25,000 acres (or about 39 square miles)—an area roughly the size of the city of San Francisco or twice the size of Manhattan. While Disneyland consists of two theme parks and a shopping district within walking distance of each other, Disney World contains four major theme parks, two water parks, over 25 themed resort hotels, a massive shopping complex (Disney Springs), and several golf courses. This massive footprint is why Disney World requires its own internal transportation system of buses, monorails, boats, and a gondola (the Disney Skyliner). Most first-time visitors are shocked by the scale; you can spend a week at Disney World and still not see everything, whereas you can reasonably experience the highlights of Disneyland in just two or three days.
