In the United States, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is exponentially larger than the Disneyland Resort in California. To put it in perspective, the entire Disneyland Resort (including two theme parks, three hotels, and a shopping district) covers about 500 acres. In contrast, Walt Disney World covers approximately 25,000 to 30,000 acres (roughly 43 square miles), which is about the size of the city of San Francisco. While Disneyland fits its "magic" into a compact, walkable area in the middle of Anaheim, Disney World is a massive, self-contained city with four theme parks, two water parks, over 25 hotels, and its own transportation system of buses, boats, monorails, and gondolas. In fact, just one of Disney World's parks—Disney's Animal Kingdom—is over 500 acres on its own, meaning you could fit the entire California resort inside a single Florida park. Disneyland wins for nostalgia and ease of "park hopping," but Disney World wins for sheer scale and the variety of experiences available across its vast property.
