Which is better for layover Frankfurt or Munich?

To me the Munich layover is too short considering you'll need to go through immigration there. Also if your flight is delayed departing, that will cut your connection time too. While Frankfurt isn't my favorite airport, the longer layover affords a little more time in the event of delays.

Both airports are world-class hubs, but Munich (MUC) is generally considered "better" for a layover in 2026 due to its more compact, modern, and "passenger-friendly" design. Munich Airport consistently wins awards for its amenities, including the Airbräu (the world's only airport brewery), a mini-golf course, and a surfing wave pool during the summer. Its layout is more intuitive, making short connections less stressful. Frankfurt (FRA), while massive and efficient, is often described as "industrial" and can involve very long walks (or the SkyLine train) between terminals. However, Frankfurt is "better" if you have a long layover (6+ hours) and want to see a city; the S-Bahn train from FRA to the Frankfurt city center takes only 15 minutes, whereas the train from MUC to downtown Munich takes nearly 45 minutes. For a "pure" airport experience, choose Munich for its Bavarian charm and ease of use; for a chance to explore a major European metropolis quickly, Frankfurt's central location and superior rail connectivity make it the winner.
