The "better" option depends entirely on your travel habits. TSA PreCheck is ideal if you primarily fly domestically within the U.S.; it allows you to keep your shoes, belt, and light jacket on and keep your laptop and liquids in your bag at security. Global Entry, however, is the superior choice for international travelers because it includes all the benefits of TSA PreCheck plus expedited U.S. Customs and Border Protection screening when returning to the U.S. from abroad. While TSA PreCheck costs roughly $78 for five years, Global Entry is $120 (as of late 2024 price updates). If you plan to travel internationally even once every few years, the extra $42 for Global Entry is generally considered the better value. Note that many premium travel credit cards offer a statement credit that covers the application fee for either program.
