The Washington Monument is significantly taller than the Statue of Liberty. Standing at 555 feet (169 meters), the stone obelisk in Washington, D.C., towers over the iconic Lady Liberty in New York Harbor. The Statue of Liberty measures 305 feet (93 meters) from the ground to the tip of her torch. To put it in perspective, the Washington Monument is nearly twice the height of the statue. While the Statue of Liberty is arguably more complex in its internal copper and iron structure (designed by Eiffel), the Washington Monument remains one of the tallest masonry structures in the world. Interestingly, both monuments offer internal access for visitors; while you can climb to the crown of Liberty, the Washington Monument's elevator takes you to an observation deck that provides a much higher, 360-degree view of the U.S. capital.
