As of 2026, Terminal 4 remains the newest operational passenger terminal at Singapore Changi Airport, having opened in 2017. However, the biggest buzz at the airport currently revolves around the massive Terminal 5 (T5) project. Construction on T5 began in 2025 and is part of the 1,080-hectare Changi East development. While T4 is currently the most technologically advanced—utilizing "Fast and Seamless Travel" (FAST) systems with facial recognition and automated bag drops—T5 is designed to be a "mega-terminal" that will eventually handle 50 million passengers a year, nearly doubling the airport's total capacity. In early 2026, the airport even opened a free public exhibition called "T5 In the Making" at Terminal 3 to showcase the futuristic design and innovations planned for the new terminal. So, while you can currently fly through T4, the aviation world is looking toward the mid-2030s for the completion of T5, which will feature state-of-the-art baggage-handling robots and sustainable solar-powered infrastructure.
