Speed: Both Space Mountains are known for making guests feel as if they going much faster than they actually are. However, the two stateside versions do differ in average speeds, but not by much. Disneyland's Space Mountain rockets guests through space at 32 mph while Disney World only does so at 30 mph.
Everest has a max drop of about 80 feet and a top speed of 50 mph. It is taller and faster than Space Mountain but is also much more smooth. In addition, there is both a forwards and backwards component to Everest.
While the near darkness, out of this world theming and a few unforeseen drops may have you feeling as though you're traveling at the speed of light, Space Mountain is one of the slowest coasters in the Magic Kingdom.
One of the best Magic Kingdom rides! Big Thunder Mountain is one of the most underrated WDW rides! The wait can get kind of long on busy days but if you time it right, you won't wait more than 30-40 minutes. My whole family loves this roller coaster, we make sure to ride it every time we are in Magic Kingdom.
The ride's slogan, Never the Same Fear Twice!, refers to the drop pattern being randomly selected by a computer before the ride begins. The drop reaches a top speed of 39 miles per hour (63 km/h).
