Which train station is best for Dolomites?

Getting to the Dolomites Train: Pieve di Cadore is very near a train station (Calalzo di Cadore, 10 minutes by bus or taxi) and San Candido has a train station (on a different line which does not interconnect and is convenient mainly if you are coming from northern Europe).

The best train station depends on which part of the Dolomites you're visiting, but Bolzano (Bozen) is the primary gateway for the Western Dolomites (Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi). A supportive peer "transit" guide: if you're headed to the Eastern Dolomites (Val Pusteria or Alta Badia), the Bressanone (Brixen) or Fortezza stations are better for transfers. For those going to Cortina d'Ampezzo, you typically take a train to Dobbiaco (Toblach) or Calalzo di Cadore. In 2026, Bolzano remains the most popular "hub" because it’s a stop for high-speed Frecciarossa and EuroCity trains from Munich, Verona, and Venice. From Bolzano, a seamless network of regional buses and even cable cars can whisk you directly into the heart of the mountains, making it the most stress-free entry point for most international travelers.
