Which train stop for Vesuvius?

Ercolano Scavi (for Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius) There is more than one Ercolano Station so be sure to get off at Ercolano Scavi. The station is in the middle of town.

To visit Mount Vesuvius, the best and most common train stop is Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri. This station is located on the Circumvesuviana line, which runs between Naples (Napoli Piazza Garibaldi) and Sorrento. Once you exit the station, you will find several shuttle bus services, most notably the "EAV" or "Busvia del Vesuvio," which transport tourists directly from the station to the trailhead of the Great Crater (Gran Cono). Alternatively, you can get off at the Ercolano Scavi station, which is also on the Circumvesuviana line; from here, the "Vesuvio Express" shuttles operate. While Ercolano is geographically closer to the base, the Pompei Scavi stop is often preferred by travelers who want to combine a visit to the Pompeii ruins with their trek up the volcano. It is important to note that the train only gets you to the base of the mountain; you will still need a bus or taxi and a pre-booked ticket to hike to the actual crater summit.
