The primary vaporetto (water bus) line that traverses the entire length of Venice’s Grand Canal is Line 1. It is often called the "panoramic" or "slow" line because it stops at almost every dock along the S-shaped canal, including Rialto, San Marco, and the Santa Lucia Train Station. The entire journey takes about 45 minutes and provides the absolute best view of the historic palazzos. For a faster trip, Line 2 also goes through the Grand Canal but makes fewer stops, making it a "semi-express" route. In 2026, a single vaporetto ticket costs roughly €9.50 for a 75-minute journey, so a high-value peer tip is to buy a "Daily Pass" (around €25) if you plan on taking more than two rides. For the best experience, try to snag a seat at the very front or back of the boat for an unobstructed view of the Rialto Bridge. Note that Lines 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, and 5.2 circle the outside of the city and do not enter the Grand Canal, so stay on Line 1 if you want the classic "Venetian Palace" view.
