In recent years, Hyatt Hotels Corporation has aggressively expanded its portfolio through several high-profile acquisitions to strengthen its position in the luxury and lifestyle segments. Most notably, in late 2024, Hyatt reached an agreement to acquire Standard International, the parent company of the iconic The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels brands. This deal, which included 21 open hotels and over 30 projects in the pipeline, allowed Hyatt to form a new dedicated lifestyle group headquartered in New York City. This follows other significant acquisitions, such as the 2023 purchase of Mr & Mrs Smith, a travel platform that granted World of Hyatt members access to a curated collection of over 1,500 boutique and luxury properties worldwide. Previously, Hyatt made waves by acquiring Apple Leisure Group (ALG) in 2021, which included the massive AMR Collection (now the Inclusive Collection) of all-inclusive brands like Secrets and Dreams, and the 2018 purchase of Two Roads Hospitality, which brought brands like Thompson, Alila, and Joie de Vivre into the Hyatt family.
