Who do Carnival gratuities go to?

100% of your gratuities are distributed to the crew who you interact with, such as your stateroom attendants, dining and culinary services staff, as well as others who work behind the scenes to enhance your overall cruise experience.

Carnival Cruise Line's daily "Service Values" (gratuities) are pooled and distributed among the diverse team of crew members who make your vacation possible. The majority of these funds go to three main groups: Housekeeping staff (your room stewards who clean your cabin), Dining team members (waiters, assistant waiters, and headwaiters in the main dining rooms), and the Alternative services crew (who work behind the scenes in the galley, laundry, and other guest-facing support roles). As of 2026, the standard gratuity is approximately $16.00 to $18.00 per person, per day, depending on your stateroom category. Carnival uses an automated system to add these to your "Sign & Sail" account, which ensures that even the "unseen" crew members who don't interact with you directly—but are essential to the ship's operation—receive a fair share of the service pool. While you can adjust these at the Guest Services desk, it is highly discouraged as it directly impacts the livelihood of the hard-working international crew. If a specific crew member provides exceptional service, many guests choose to give an additional "cash-in-hand" tip as a personal gesture, but the automated gratuities remain the primary way the cruise line compensates its service-focused workforce.
