It competes with the Boeing 767, smaller variants of the Boeing 777, and the 787. It is complemented by the larger Airbus A350, which succeeded the four-engined A340.

Qantas has ordered more Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s to replace its A330 fleet, and also confirmed that it intends to eventually use A350-1000s in place of its A380s when that type is retired in the 2030s. The carrier has been signaling for several months that it was considering its A330 replacement...
Airbus' largest A330s are on par with Boeing's smallest 777s. In other words, the Boeing 777 targets a higher capacity than the A330. Measuring over 10 meters longer than the A330-300 and the 777-200, the 777-300 seats a significantly higher number of passengers.
The A330 is significantly smaller / lighter aircraft than a B777. The B777 cruises at a faster speed also. At the same time, the B777 engine has around 9:1 bypass ratio, while the A330 has a 5:1 bypass ratio.
The 777-9 measures 251 ft 8 in (76.72 m) in length, compared with 242 ft 1 in (73.78 m) for the A350-1000. With its folding wingtips, its wingspan is much larger too – at 238 ft 10 in (72.80 m), it has more than 20 feet on the A350.
Fuel savings and revenue. One crucial advantage of the A330 is its low fuel consumption. In the mid to late 1970s, Airbus found the type could carry the same amount of passengers as a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 but with 25% better fuel efficiency.
Cabin comfort andThe A330's modern cabin enables the installation of Airbus-standard wide seats that bring a high level of comfort and relaxation to long-haul flights – even in economy.
The Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 are very similar aircraft, suited for similar missions. As one would expect, the slightly larger A350-900 has a seat-mile cost advantage, while the 787-9 has an advantage in cost per block hour. These aircraft are competitive, and nearly tie in economic performance.
As the A330neo Family's largest member, the A330-900 retains the fuselage length of Airbus' A330-300 variant to accommodate between 260 and 300 seats in a typical three-class layout, or up to 460 in economy class.
Hydraulic pumpThe purpose of the system is to ensure that minimum pressure is maintained across the hydraulic systems of the aircraft. This system produces the 'barking dog' noise that is associated with the Airbus series, which also sometimes manifests itself as a high-pitched whining noise.

Modern aircraft with two engines flying transatlantic (the most common models used for transatlantic service being the Airbus A330, Boeing 767, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787) have to be ETOPS certified.
Therefore, the ERJ135/140/145 members of the family are among the safest airliners in history. The Airbus A340 is also one of the safest, with no fatal accidents involving any of the 380 units since its introduction in March 1993.
As airlines are moving towards newer generation aircraft, the demand for good-condition Airbus A330s is relatively low - even if the youngest of these jets is a little less than ten years old. While many of these A330s are in their teenage years, they also haven't been flying at all in the last two to three years.
The larger planes, such as the Boeing 747, 777, 787 and the Airbus A330 and A380, have much more seats than the smaller Embraer 190, Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. The A380 can transport most passengers (516 seats), followed by the Boeing 747 and 777 (408 seats).
Boeing 787 DreamlinerAt number seven is the most advanced airliner, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. After scrapping its Sonic Cruiser project, Boeing started the development of an efficient airliner in 2003.
The Airbus A350 burns 25 per cent less fuel than most previous generation aircraft, so it generates less carbon dioxide. It is quieter too, so it's better for the environment in a number of ways.
Currently, the world's biggest international airline has on order 50 A350-900s, 30 787-9s and 115 Boeing 777Xs. The airline operates 119 A380s, 123 Boeing 777-300ERs and 10 Boeing 777-200LRs. The 777X aircraft will replace the A380s, while the A350s and 787s will eventually replace the 777s.
