Windsor Castle is not just a museum; it is a functioning community that houses roughly 150 people. The most prominent "permanent" residents are the King and Queen, who use it as a primary weekend home and for official residences like "Easter Court." However, the day-to-day life of the castle is maintained by the Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle, the Dean of Windsor, and the Military Knights of Windsor. The Military Knights are retired army officers who receive lodging in exchange for attending services at St George's Chapel. Additionally, various household staff, including the Royal Chefs, housekeepers, and security personnel, live in specialized apartments within the castle walls. It is essentially a fortified village where the residents are responsible for everything from ceremonial duties to the upkeep of the 1,000-room estate. While the Prince and Princess of Wales live on the Windsor estate at Adelaide Cottage, they do not live inside the castle itself.
