Why are my United miles not showing up?

If you earn miles through one of our partners, it may take up to eight weeks for the miles to credit to your account. If your miles expire after the transaction but before the miles are credited to your account, we will automatically reinstate your balance 7-10 days after the credit appears on your account.

There are several common reasons why United miles might not be showing up in your MileagePlus account. Here are the most likely causes and what you can do:

1. Posting Delays (Most Common)

  • Flights: Miles typically post 2-14 days after travel is completed. For partner airlines, it can take 4-6 weeks.
  • Credit Card Spending: Miles from United co-branded cards (Chase) or transferable points (Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, etc.) usually post within 1-3 business days, but sometimes longer.
  • Shopping Portals/Dining: Can take 4-8 weeks.
  • Action: Check the expected posting timeline for the activity. If it’s still within that window, wait a bit longer.

2. Missing or Incorrect MileagePlus Number

  • Flights: If you didn’t add your MileagePlus number at booking/check-in, or if the name on the ticket doesn’t exactly match the name on your account, miles won’t post automatically.
  • Action: You can claim missing miles online. Go to United’s website, find the “Claim Missing Miles” section under your account activity, and submit your boarding pass and ticket number. For partner flights, use the partner’s claim form.

3. Fare Class or Partner Airline Ineligibility

  • Not all fares on United or its partners earn miles. Basic Economy fares on partner airlines often earn 0 miles. Some deeply discounted fares may also be ineligible.
  • Action: Review the fare
