Why are so many rides in Magic Kingdom closed?

Attractions close for routine maintenance, safety upgrades, improvements, and reimaginings. (Updated August 20, 2023.) While no one wants attraction downtime during their trip to Walt Disney World, refurbishments are necessary to keep the rides looking good (and safe!) for future visitors.

Magic Kingdom (along with Hollywood Studios) has a special event where you can pay extra to stay in the park for several hours after it officially closes.
